
The best cricketers in any group playing innings match and limited overs match for Kokuvil Hindu College will be awarded with trophies and cash prizes for their outstanding performances.
As old students of Kokuvil Hindu College, Ragu Thevarajah and Sukanya Thevarajah from Canada will sponsor the trophies and cash prizes from year 2008 and onwards.
A (1) Awards for Jaffna Schools Cricket Association Tournament Matches organised by Sri Lankan schools Cricket Association and any other Inter Schools Tournament Matches for any age group,
(Under 13, Under 15, Under 17 and Under 19 Teams)
1. Rs. 5,000 is awarded for each century scored by a player in an inning of any innings match or any limited overs match.
2. Rs. 1,000 is awarded for each 50 runs scored by a player in an inning of any innings match or any limited overs match.
3. Rs. 1,000 is awarded for every 5 wickets or more taken by a player in an inning of any innings match or any limited overs match.
A (2) Under 19 (Senior team) Jaffna Schools Cricket Association
Tournament Series Organised by Sri Lankan Schools Cricket Association (excluding finals)
1. Rs. 5,000 is awarded for the batsman who scored most runs in the series.
2. Rs. 5,000 is awarded for the bowler who took most wickets in the series.
3. Rs. 5,000 is awarded for the “most valuable player” of the series.

The above prize money (A2) will be awarded only to the team that qualifies for the super selection or placed in the first half of the participating teams of the season. In case this team fails to qualify, the prize money will be awarded to the next qualifying team (under 17, under 15 or under 13 ).
A (3) Awards for final cricket matches - Tournament organised by the Sri Lankan Schools Cricket Association and conducted by the Jaffna Schools Cricket Association for any age group
1. Rs. 5,000 is awarded for the “most valuable player” from Kokuvil Hindu College team of any age group playing in the final match (only if a championship match is played).
2. Rs. 6,000 is awarded to Kokuvil Hindu College team of any age group finishing as the winner or the runner-up of the season.

A1, A2 and A3 prizes will be awarded in honour of Mr. V. Ganeshalingam.
(Sports legend, promoted cricket in the 60’s & 70’s)
Mr. V. Ganeshalingam, a teacher of English and physical trained instructor at Kokuvil Hindu College worked along with Mr. C. Balakrishnan to promote cricket. Himself, an ardent sportsman, he was instrumental in bringing the school to an equal status in cricket with other schools. The second eleven cricket team under Mr. Ganeshalingam’s charge was in excellent form in the period 1964 to 1966. Cricket boots were introduced for use by the players, replacing tennis shoes in 1972 by him. The best period in cricket was from 1970 to 1975 under his leadership. He was one with the players during practice, guiding them to become gentlemanly players in the game of gentlemen – cricket. He played an important role in moulding the character of the players. They admired him, looked up to him for guidance in sports and life as well, respected him and feel grateful for their honoured position in life. The torch Mr. Ganeshalingam lit shines bright to this day and the school has earned a place and name in cricket. Kokuvil Hindu College will remember him forever and will be proud of him as its old student.

B (1,2,3,4 and 6) prizes will be awarded in memory of
late Mr. V.C. Ramanathan.
(Pioneer in the field of cricket in the 50’s)
Mr. V. C. Ramanathan of the staff of Kokuvil Hindu College, who hails from an illustrious family in Alaveddi is the pioneer in the field of cricket. A keen enthusiast in sports, Mr. V. C. Ramanathan (V.C.R.) and Mr. S. Suntharasivam introduced cricket at Kokuvil Hindu College in 1951 making all the preliminary arrangements, buying the equipment, preparing the pitch etc. The name V.C.R. is synonymous with cricket at Kokuvil Hindu College.

(As a coach, promoted cricket in the 50’s & 60’s)
Mr. C. Balakrshnan, son of the famous Kalaiarasu Chornalingam of Navaly, a Biology teacher at Kokuvil Hindu College took over the responsibility of the cricket team in 1953. The team performed well in the matches played with other schools. Gradually the team improved its standard due to the efficient coaching of Mr. Balakrishnan.

(points will be calculated on the total score in all matches including the final).
2. Rs. 1,000 is awarded for the “man of the team” (in the final match) from the Kokuvil Hindu College team playing in the final match.
3. Rs. 6,000 is awarded to Kokuvil Hindu College team of any age group playing in the final match.
(Prize money will be shared by all the players in the team)
D (1,2 and 3) prizes will be awarded in memory of
late Mr. V. Bavasing.
(Best bowler and cricket coach in the 60’s & 70’s)
Mr. V. Bavasing is an excellent sportsman in soccer and cricket. Cricket raised him to the highest status as a class one fast bowler. A left arm pace bowler, he has been the most effective new ball player in the North judging by his performances. He has brought name and fame to Kokuvil Hindu College by his outstanding performances in cricket matches played not only in Jaffna but also in Colombo. He won the award for the best bowler. 1967, 1969, 1970 are remarkable years in the cricket sports record of Bavasing. Apart from his own achievements, ha has trained cricketers from Kokuvil Hindu College to attain similar heights. The years he spent as a student, as a cricket player and cricket coach are memorable in the history of Kokuvil Hindu College. He is a proud son of the school.

Note: The point system for selection of the most valuable player is as follows:
· 1 point for each run, 3 points for each catch and 10 points for each wicket taken.
· The player who scores the highest total points in the match will get the shield trophy and cash prize.
· In case of a tie in the total points scored by each player, the cash prize will be shared by them.
The cash prizes and trophies mentioned in (A), (B), (C) and (D) are awarded for the Kokuvil Hindu College team players who play in the leather ball matches.
The above scheme A, B, C and D for the presentation of awards for the cricket players of Kokuvil Hindu College was formulated and implemented by Ragu Thevarajah and Sukanya Thevarajah – Canada in 2008, after discussion with Mr. A. Ahiladas (Principal, K.H.C.).
